Twitter Is Convinced God Of War Ragnarok’s Release Date Is Imminent

As rumours about God of War: Ragnarok‘s release date swirl, the game’s director Cory Barlog has asked for everyone to just calm tf down.

“Dear all,” reads Barlog’s tweet. “If it were up to me I would share all the information when I know about it. But it is not up to me. So please, be patient. I promise things will be shared at the earliest possible moment they can be. We make games for you. We get to make games because of you.”

Barlog’s statement comes after weeks of mounting speculation that a release date announcement is imminent. Beyond an acknowledgment that God of War: Ragnarok would arrive in 2022, Sony has not, as yet, planted a clear flag for launch.

As things stand now, The Last of Us Part I is the only major first-party PlayStation title launching before the end of the year. This leaves PlayStation with a significant hole in its schedule during the lucrative Christmas season. This is the gap that fans believe God of War: Ragnarok is set to fill.

PlayStation, of course, isn’t in this boat by itself. Xbox has seen both its major Q4 releases, Starfield and Redfall, slip to 2023. An end-of-year power vacuum has begun to form, with only a handful of major third-party titles staking out firm dates.

Twitter’s current, and firm, belief is that PlayStation will announce the date via its social media accounts. Sony has, in the recent past, preferred to announce release dates for anticipated games via a State of Play broadcast. While a God of War: Ragnarok State of Play to announce the date wouldn’t be a surprise, there’s currently no concrete indication that Sony intends to drop a new broadcast in the immediate future.

So, for now, we’re still locked in a game of wait-and-see.
